The windows that are put into new construction homes are different that the windows that are used to replace existing windows. My husband and I built our home in 2016. It came with whatever window our builder used and we didn’t have any say in the matter. As it turns out we do have Low E glass, but don’t have argon gas or double hung windows, which makes it bit more difficult to clean them.
Replacement Windows will have a bit less glass per window that what we see in new construction windows. Typically replacement windows are a better window, depending on the builder and will be a bit more beefy when it comes to the frame and sash (upper and lower). You may even find you have to replace your blinds if they fit perfectly inside the builder windows your home came with. Replacement windows will have less space from inside of frame to inside of frame, so be sure to take this into consideration if you are working with a budget.

We had both Window World and Hegg Windows into our home to price out our window project of 12 windows. “Walt” from Window World came into our home with his bag of ‘stuff’ and his window sample. It took him no more than 27 minutes to get through his demonstration. He left us with a quote and a Alside 4000 brochure. I’m glad he did as he spoke so quickly that I didn’t pick up on much of what he said and had to refer to his brochure.
“Harry” of Hegg Windows walked into our door, very professionally dressed, he had one brochure and no window sample. He walked around the house with my husband and took note of the window sizes and asked us why we were in the market for new windows. We explained that we still had the original build-grade windows and that noise was also a factor. We indicated we would like to get a price for both double and triple pane. Hegg didn’t leave a quote but promised to send by end of day, the next day.
The quote arrived via email and the window representative also sent me a text to confirm it had arrived into my email box. The Hegg quote was one of the most thorough quotes we received. I appreciated this since I dive into each on so I can add them to the Wacky Window Woman Price Comparison Chart.
Best Replacement Windows for the Money Columbus, Ohio
You’ll note as you begin to review the Wacky Window Woman Price Comparison Chart that Window World is currently ranked #1 and Hegg Windows, both of Columbus, Ohio is currently ranked #2. They are ranked where they are based on the quote they gave to me for my home of 12 windows.
As you continue to review the other columns of information on the chart, you’ll want to note whether the window they offer is Energy Star, 2023 7.0 certified or is it just the standard Energy Star. You’ll also see the Air Infiltration ratings along with the U-Factor. You want to see a Yes in the column for Energy Star 7.0, and then for the Air Infiltration, the lower the better. In the U Factor column, you want to see a number that is less than 0.30 which is the industry minimum threshold.
Window World of Columbus Ohio, are they a good value?
Window World is the least expensive, but the window they offer, the Alside 4000 series is Alside’s budget-friendly window. It doesn’t meet Energy Star 7.0 specifications, it has a mid-range score for Air Infiltration and an adequate score for their U-Factor.
Hegg Windows of Columbus, Ohio – are they worth it in 2025?
Hegg purchases their windows from a company in Northeast Ohio called Provia. They offer a window they call Endure. When I received our quote from Hegg Windows, it referred to the Endure 600 series as the window they were quoting us. Unfortunately, It has doesn’t meet the Energy Star 2023, 7.0 requirements. It has a mid-range Air Infiltration score and meets the below 0.030 requirement for it’s U-Factor. So overall, an apples-to-apples comparison with the Alside 4000 budget friendly window that Window World promotes.
Top Replacement Window in Columbus Ohio
If you look at #3 on the list, it is $700 more than Window World. However, when you factor in that it meets the Energy Star 2023, 7.0 standards, it has the best score on the chart for Air Infiltration (even better than some of the larger, pricier window brands) plus the fact that it’s U-Factor is well below the industry standard threshold of 0.30, it’s by far the best value on the chart.
Window World Vs. Hegg Windows – Columbus Ohio
If you are truly comparing these two Columbus, Ohio companies – Window World and Hegg Windows, the only real differentiator is the price and how each’s Sales Representative presented the window.
Window World is $73 less than Hegg Windows, so barely a difference for pretty much a similar window. I will say that “Walt” of Window World, although he spoke very quickly, did a better job of presenting the window, his company and the options they offered.
