In this blog you’ll learn the average cost to replace windows for a 3 bedroom house in Columbus, Ohio.
We finally admitted that procrastinating the process of window shopping wasn’t a viable long-term strategy. It was time we kicked off the search for replacement windows for our 3-bedroom ranch in northwest Columbus. We built our house back in 2016, and by year ten, it was clear, our windows had seen better days.
We’re the type who actually use our windows. We open and close them alot, occasionally wrestling with them like they’re stuck in a bad mood. Over the years, we pretty much wore out the builder-grade windows. Some windows had clearly decided they were done with their “up and down” responsibilities and had gone into early retirement.
Be sure to refer to the Wacky Window Woman Comparison chart. You’ll see the prices and quotes we collected for our window project of twelve windows in our 3-bedroom home.

How do you know if you need new windows?
Several factors indicate it’s time to replace your windows. A general guideline is to replace windows around 15-20 years after installation, especially if they are single-pane. Here is a list of factors to consider when making the decision of whether it’s time to replace your windows:
- They Don’t Open or Close Properly
- You Feel Drafts
- Your Energy Bills are Creeping Up
- Condensation or Fog Between Panes
- They’re Visibly Damaged or Warped
- Too much Outside Noise
- They’re a Nightmare to Clean
- You’re planning to sell or just want a Facelift
If you’re noticing a couple of these signs, it’s probably time to start looking into replacements.

Here in the capital city we are in no short supply of Window Replacement Companies. There are many companies that are National organizations like Window World, Window Nation and Champion Windows. We also have some really good local companies like Hegg, Rosati and McCloud Windows.
My husband and I began to get the idea to create this website to help other central Ohio homeowners with their window shopping journey. A few things became abundantly clear. The higher the price, the longer the presentation lasted and the harder it was to get the representative out of our house. The worst at this was Mad City Windows which is headquartered in Madison, Wisconsin. They have a location off Wilson Road on the west side of the city. The ones with the decent prices like Window World and McCloud Windows were in and out in less than 45 minutes. They were offering a competitive price and knew it, so they didn’t need to stick around forever hoping to wear us out just so we’d say yes.

Some made a master-ful presentation and others just had good instincts. Many knew what to show us so that when the time came we would have the information we needed to be able to make a decision. Many of the sales guys were very nice and personable, but one clearly stood out and that was “Joe” from McCloud Windows. He had a knack for knowing how long to stay, what to show us and a few tricks to ensure we remembered him and his company by name when the time came to make our final decision. His competitive price didn’t hurt either.
We’ve all heard of Energy Star and I would guess no one would buy a replacement window that doesn’t meet this requirement. But have you heard that Energy Star has increased their restrictions for replacement windows. You’ll want to ensure you get windows that meet the 7.0 Energy Star Certification. The Wacky Window Woman Chart identifies which windows have the 7.0 certification.
