We invited Window Nation into our home to get a quote on our window project of 12 windows. This is the sixth company that we’ve asked for a FREE QUOTE to gain an understanding of what they charge and how their process works.

Window Nation is the third largest provider of replacement windows in the US.

Best Replacement Windows in Ohio

We’ve all done it, we Google “Best Replacement Windows in Ohio” or maybe you go to Chat GBT and ask the same or a similar question to see what comes up. Buying windows can be a daunting task. For most of us, we’ll likely only do it once it our lifetime and we don’t want to get it wrong. Our homes, for most of us are our largest investment with windows, doors, siding and the roof being the face what our friends and neighbors see when they drive by.

When my husband and I made the decision that we wanted to replace the builder-grade windows in our almost ten-year old home, we were not looking forward to sitting through window demo after window demo when all I really wanted was a basic understanding of each company’s window, their process and a price for my project of twelve replacement windows.

After three presentations, we made the decision to go with McCloud Windows, but I felt like there had to be an easier way, a better way to gauge the top two or three you might want to invite to your home. This website is a result of that.

We are all familiar with the big names we see advertised on TV, but are they affordable? To be honest, I assumed they would be the most expensive. Some of those big names were super expensive and one was incredibly affordable, but after researching the window they offered, we realized, the quality of the window wasn’t up to par with the others.

Window Nation Prices – Columbus, Ohio

Window Nation has some of the corniest commercials, which also means I remember them. They are the ones with the two brothers, one’s name is Aaron, I don’t know the other. Or the one I saw just this morning is where the two newscasters are camped out in the front yard of a home which is having it’s windows replaced.

“John” was the representative that Window Nation sent to our home. “John” did exactly what I had expected all of them to do, meaning a big show. He told us that Window Nation is the 3rd largest replacement window company in the US. He shared that he had been with the company 27 years and he even boasted about being a member of their President’s Club and the lavish trips he’s been on. That was my first clue that they were not going to be the most affordable.

We got our money’s worth with his presentation. He asked me to walk him from the front of the home and work our way along each wall so he could measure every window. Ten of my twelve windows are the same size and we told him that, but he insisted on measuring them all. This took time he didn’t have as he was 15 minutes late due to traffic, which I completely understand, but we were also clear that I had a hard stop at 90 minutes and would have to excuse myself to join a work meeting online. As it turned out, he didn’t get through his presentation as he hoped, which meant he ended with a one-legger at the end, meaning you only have of the two owners and a decision wouldn’t be made that day as they would need to “talk” before they made a decision.

Window Nation offers a Target Home Program where you can agree to put a sign in your yard and get a discount on your window purchase.

Average Cost of Replacement Windows in Ohio

After “John” finished measuring, we sat at the dining room table and he brought out his heat lamp and some different grades of window glass samples. He pointed a laser measuring tool at our window and it showed about a 70, meaning the temperature on the inside of the window was exactly the same temp as the air in our home, so not really bad and nothing he could actually use to further validate why we needed new windows. He then used his temperature tool to show us how the temperature of the glass changes as you move from a single pane of glass, to a double pane, then his “special” silver double pane and then even a triple pane. As he continued the temperature continued to go down showing how the heat doesn’t get through the glass. It was all impressive, but I was losing interest. Then he spoke of them being bonded and insured and that the installers are also employees of Window Nation and that they will secure any needed permits.

Next he showed us some videos of how they install windows and how the process works. There was something about foam, some sort of de-mold product and a tube that’s used to insulate the windows. Finally, when he realized he had about 25 minutes left, he went to his vehicle and brought in his window sample. He was a bigger, yet strong guy and I could tell the window was really heavy. I think that theatric was to show how “durable” his window was. He showed us how their drainage is different and a few other things that I can’t remember. I was most impressed with how smooth the window glided up and down. I asked him if they made their own windows and he said, that the Window Nation architects design the window and they contract out to about six different window manufacturers to produce windows to their specs.

He then had us watch two videos of previous customers going on about how much they liked “John” and how happy they were with the job Window Nation had done. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah, give me the price already. Then we finally got down to the numbers.

I’m glad I took notes on my phone as he didn’t leave us with any type of electronic or paper quote. He presented all the different prices at a very quick pace, but here is the jist of what I took away from the appointment.

Keep in mind, he had already groomed us to be prepared that a typical price for a standard window in the Columbus, Ohio area is $2100 per window.

  1. Window Nation’s Starting Price at full retail was $ 24,869
  2. The one-year guaranteed price was $ 34,859
  3. The price if we sign today and become a part of their “Target Home” program was $19,304 (that program said we would have to place a sign in our yard for 30 days and we weren’t allowed to share our discounted price with our neighbors)
  4. After I left the meeting, my husband said that he also stated, that if and when we are finally ready to make a decision, to call him and he could likely get it down to $16,000

Are you confused? Me too!

Columbus Replacement Windows

When I entered the Window Nation pricing into my Wacky Window Woman chart, I wasn’t sure which price to use. I have opted to use the today price, as the $16,000 would require further approval from management and he couldn’t guarantee it.

Why don’t they just quote us the lowest and best price from the beginning? Why do we have to jump through so many hoops to finally get down to their lowest price? This closing technique isn’t my favorite and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
